  • Upstate Locavores Fall Potluck:  Mark your calendars for Thursday, September 3, Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Clemson (226 Pendleton Road), 5:30 p.m.
The Upstate Locavores are holding their early fall potluck on Thursday, September 3. The theme will be the Slow Food organization's "Time for Lunch Program", a national day of action to support getting whole, healthy foods into schools. Information will be available about South Carolina food policies, the farm-to-school movement, and congressional renewal of the Child Nutrition Act, and the food in our upstate schools.

Each person attending should bring a dish with at least one locally grown or produced item.  Dinner will begin at 5:30.  Each person is also asked to bring their own tableware (silver, plate, glass) and drink.
Bring a dish made with at least one locally-grown or locally-produced ingredient.  Not sure where to find local ingredients?  Check out our resource guide for some ideas!  And, to save on energy and gasoline, be sure to CARPOOL with friends to the farmer's market or local farms.

  • EarthBox Project:  In April 2009, the Upstate Locavores, along with Peace Church and others, provided complete gardening kits to economically challenged families in the Clemson,SC area so they can grow some of their own food. So far, approximately 23 families have received Earth Boxes.  Many have also been matched with a "garden mentor" who has provided assistance and advice on how to grow fresh food. You can  donate one EarthBox, plants and tools for $60 . You can also volunteer to mentor a family as they plant their EarthBox, harvest vegetables, and learn how to garden.
